Russian Trade Policy Project | 16-11-2005
The project on Russia’s international economic policy strategy has been recently started. It is implemented in cooperation with the Brookings Institute, USA.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the Brookings Institute, USA. It includes a one-month visit of the head of the project, Ksenia Yudaeva, to  Brookings. One more member of the group, Natalia Volchkova, visits Brookings for one week. one of the senior researchers from Brookings has been invited to visit CEFIR.

Project Summary:

The project will start with description of the current Russian trade and exchange rate policy, and trade, FDI, portfolio investments, and other capital flows. We will describe the current level of tariff and non-tariff protection, and their potential changes as a result of Russia’s WTO accession.

The description of trade flows will include analysis of indexes of revised? comparative advantages and inter-industry and intra-industry trade. The part on FDI will include evaluation of spillover effect from FDI on domestic firms using firm-level data, and estimation of the effects of policies on FDI flows using cross-country data.

To evaluate future trade policy options we will extend our CGE model to include China, India and the USA, and possibly other countries.

Project Output:

In the framework of this project the work on Russia’s international economic policy strategy is going to be enlarged, and a report, which will analyze a wide range of options in this policy area will be prepared.
