The project was implemented for the Ministry of the Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation

Project Dates: 2007

Project Summary:

Within the project CEFIR experts studied the current CIS-countries export baskets and their corresponding potential of the economic growth. They also analyzed the potential of the CIS-countries export baskets and developed the forecasts of the trading volume growth and of the changes in the CIS-countries goods flows.

CEFIR experts composed the lists of goods in which Russia and the CIS-countries have comparative advantages at the moment. For each of the studied CIS-countries there were lists of the goods composed naming those goods which export from Russia was insufficient as it didnít allow to implement the comparative advantage of Russia to the utmost at the global market. There were lists of goods composed for Russia and the CIS-countries naming the goods export of which should be diversified as it would enlarge countryís growth prospects at the expense of countryís more effective participation in the international division of labor.

CEFIR experts elaborated the measures of trading policy and domestic economic policy aimed at:
  • boosting export of those goods in which the current export potential is insufficient
  • priority development of production in Russia dormant export goods the diversification of which will empower the country’s economic growth rate.
